GOCO awards $30,000 grant to Town of Severance to create Parks Master Plan
Town of Severance – The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Board has approved $30,000 for the Town of Severance Parks Master Plan on April 7th, 2016.
The Town of Severance has set a priority to create the Town’s first Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Currently the Town does not have a Parks and Recreation Department nor has there been a creation any such master plan in the past. It is the vision of the Town Board of Trustees and staff that through public participation this master plan will identify and create better parks and recreational opportunities for our residents.
There are several desired outcomes that the Town of Severance will achieve through the creation of this Master Plan, however there are three main goals. The first of these goals is that through public participation a master plan will be created that will identify and create better parks and recreational opportunities for residents of Severance. The second goal of this project is to start the process of creating a community park that would provide a central recreational location for residents. Lastly, the Town will identify whether current parks and recreational needs warrant the immediate or near future creation of a Town Parks and Recreation Department. Although the Town does currently have five (5) neighborhood parks, these parks are being maintained by the Public Works Department.
The Town of Severance is a smaller rural Town, staff and resources are limited. In turn, GOCO’s participation will provide the additional monetary funds needed to hire a consulting company that can not only provide the resources needed to create this master plan, but additionally provide the experience and expertise of creating such a plan. These funds will not only help create this Parks Master Plan, but GOCO will be at the forefront of helping the swiftly growing Town of Severance secure a future parks and recreational plan for citizens to enjoy for several generations to come.
Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) invests a portion of Colorado Lottery proceeds to help preserve and enhance the state’s parks, trails, wildlife, rivers and open spaces. GOCO’s independent board awards competitive grants to local governments and land trusts, and makes investments through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Created by voters in 1992, GOCO has funded more than 3,500 projects in all 64 counties without any tax dollar support. The grants are funded by GOCO’s share of Colorado Lottery revenues, which are divided between GOCO, CPW, the Conservation Trust Fund and school construction. For more information, visit goco.org.
